Joy Blake Scott has 10 years of experience in public relations and marketing. She is president of Longleaf Communications.
Her communications and marketing experience includes work at the GCA, Archtiag/Xmlu, and as an employee of Fastwater, in addtion to her work with clients at Longleaf.As director of Information Technologies at GCA, she was responsible for public relations, marketing and program development for the XML (then SGML) conference in the US. She also initiated, designed and marketed the program for the first SGML conference in the Asia Pacific region (first in Singapore and later in Sydney Australia); and assisted in the marketing and development of GCA's European event.
After leaving GCA, Joy joined Architag/Xmlu.com as the director of marketing and education. There she developed and marketed the first SGML and later the first XML conferences in Tokyo Japan, secured major media coverage for these events, and forged strong relationships with key companies in Japan including Toshiba Advanced Systems, Fuji Xerox, and Microsoft Japan. In addition to her work in Asia, Joy was responsible for public relations and marketing for the organization. She secured speaking opportunities and special interest days for Architag/Xmlu.com at Seybold, Internet World, Gartner/IEB, XML One, Microsoft TechEd, DCI, and WEB '98 and '99. She secured sponsorships from key vendors including Microsoft, for Xmlu.com's US events. The Microsoft relationship grew into a major training contract for the organization which it still benefits from today. Joy also secured quotes and articles in InfoWorld, InformationWeek and other key trade publications.
In her work with Fastwater Joy has been responsible for public relations, marketing, and market research for clients. She has been successful at securing interviews with the media and analysts, placing bylined articles, and solidifying speaking opportunities. Through the market research component of her position, she has broadened her knowledge of e-commerce initiatives and vendors that offer solutions in both the B2C and B2B space.
