Bill Zoellick has started, run, and sold businesses, worked as a senior manager and Vice President in a $100 million software company, served company boards, and has earned a reputation as a respected business analyst and consultant.

Bill is the author of the important new book, CyberRegs, which looks at the way that ownership claims to intellectual property, along with other laws and court activity, are changing the nature of the Web.  He also wrote Web Engagement, a book that captures and distills Fastwater's experience in helping web businesses understand and connect with customers. Comfortable with both technology and business issues, Bill is also the author, along with Mike Folk and Greg Riccardi, of File Structures and Object Oriented Approaches in C++, a best selling college textbook.

Bill's breadth of experience and viewpoint is important in helping Fastwater's clients see new alternatives and develop new approaches to growing their businesses. In his work with our clients Bill has filled the role of Vice president of Business development at a number of businesses as they staffed up and established themselves in their markets. For other clients Bill serves as confidante and sounding board for CEOs; he brings an outsider's perspective on market opportunities, development plans and management problems while still being a trusted friend of the company.

Before founding Fastwater with Lee Fife and Mary Laplante, Bill and Mary built an industry analysis and market research practice at CAP Ventures, focused on the document management and electronic publishing markets. Earlier, in 1987, Bill joined Haviland Wright and Eric Severson in starting Avalanche Development Company, a software company focused on automating recognition of the structure of documents. In 1993 Bill, Haviland, and Eric sold Avalanche to Interleaf. While at Interleaf, Bill served in a variety of roles including president and general manager of the Avalanche subsidiary, Vice President in charge of Interleaf's SGML development, and management of Interleaf's business development work. Prior to starting Avalanche, Bill was in charge of software architecture at TMS, Inc., where he designed and oversaw development of one of the world's first commercial hypertext retrieval systems.

Bill has a Bachelor's and Masters degree from the University of Illinois in Urbana.
